II. The Role of Skin

Skin has the two aspects of barrier function:

1. Prevent the Loss of water, electrolytes and other substances in the body.
2. Prevent the invasion of the harmful substances. Skin maintain a stable environment in the body, while also take part in the metabolic process.

There are several color of skin (White, yellow, red, brown, black, etc.), color varies depending on the human races, ages, and positions of body.

III. The classification of ultrasound

The human ear can hear the sound wave frequency is 20 - 20000HZ. When the sound wave vibration frequency is greater than 20000HZ or less than 20HZ, then we cannot hear. Therefore, we call the sound waves frequency over 20000HZ to “ultrasound”.

Ultrasound refers to the sound waves frequency over 20000Hz, is mechanical vibration wave that cannot heard by normal human hearing, this vibration wave has mechanical effect, hyperthermia effect and chemical effect, Ultrasound aesthetic utilizes these three major effects of ultrasound in human facial treatment, to achieve the purpose of beauty.

1. Mechanical effect: utilizes the ultrasound power/energy, act on the face can make the skin cell with vibration, produce micro massage function, improve the cell volume, so as to improve the local blood and lymph circulation, enhance cell permeability, improve tissue metabolism and regeneration, softening tissue, stimulate the nervous system and cell function, make the skin shiny and elastic.
2. Hyperthermia effect: through the ultrasound hyperthermia effect, can raise the temperature of the skin surface, accelerate the blood circulation, increase the skin cell nutrient, reduce nerve excitability, have the effect of analgesia, make the spasm of muscle fiber relaxation, have the effect of spasmolysis. Ultrasound heat is endogenous heat; 79%-82% heat took away in the blood self-acting area, 18%-21% heat conduct and spread to nearby tissue, so patients haven’t obvious thermal sensation.
3. Chemical effect: ultrasound can enhance the catalytic ability, accelerate the metabolism of skin cells, make the tissues of the PH value change in the direction of alkaline, reduce the skin inflammation. Ultrasound can improve the permeability of cell membranes, make the nutrients and drugs depolymerization, be good for skin to absorb nutrition, use drug penetrate thallus, improve the sterilization ability.

IV. What is HIFU?

HIFU is a professional skin aesthetic method. It uses high intensity focused ultrasound to stimulate the deep structural support layers of the skin without damaging the surface of the skin. A special Cartridge is gently put on treatment skin to deliver the appropriate amount of ultrasonic waves to accurate depth (SMAS) under skin, precisely heating up the tissues to the optimal temperature for neocollagenesis (>600C), and producing “hot spots” deep in the tissue. These hot spots trigger the body’s own natural healing process, in which new collagen is formed to tighten and lift sagging skin.

V. What is SMAS?

During a surgical facelift, many people want to know which tissue has been lifted so that the results is so amazing. This tissue is SMAS. The SMAS extends from the platysma to the aponeurotic galea and is continuous with temporoparietal fascia and galea. It connects to the dermis via a vertical septa. As a person ages, the quantity of collagen in SMAS decreases, and this leads to the facial skin losing its suppleness and developing wrinkles. In order to tighten the skin, SMAS must contract. HIFU is such technology to precisely heat up SMAS, leading to improved elasticity and firmness in the skin.
